Various game camera shots

Well, it finally happened. Ants got into the game camera that's in our favorite location. I think it's fried now. No pictures from that camera. Oh well.

Luckily we have two other cameras pointing in different directions.  Here are some interesting pics:

I saved the best one for last.  The doe senses danger, and is standing her ground by "putting her foot down". She has her leg in the "ready" position and will actually stamp the ground to warn off the perceived threat she sees. Other times a deer may "snort" (a fast exhaling through the nostrils) in an attempt to startle the threat. 

The fawns look like they're having fun, but mom is in a defensive position.

Twins delivered in our backyard

Recently (May 20th) I was home in the afternoon and was on the phone with my sister. At the time, a deer had given birth in the backyard in the tall grass, about 80 ft from the dining room window. I told her at the time that a  doe had delivered a new fawn . I didn't see the occurrence, but could only speculate based on the obvious evidence of the tiny fawn.


After a very short while, the same doe was shifting around and changing position. Turns out she was giving birth to a second fawn. By that time we saw a lot of what was going on. Within a hour, the mother and two fawns toddled off to a new location for the evening. We lost track of them.


Periodically we've spotted young fawns wandering around, feeding, or hiding in the grass out back. Here's the latest spotting. I had enough time to get some great shots!

First fawn of 2016 spotted

Yes, we know spring is really here when a new fawn is spotted in the backyard. And yesterday was the day. Within the last week or so there was a doe occasionally hanging around. She looked ever-so-slightly heavier in the midsection than other does.




This shot below was taken a couple of weeks ago, on a cool spring morning. There's plenty to eat given the spring rains are frequent this year. The deer can spend less time foraging and more time resting.

Yesterday it was cloudy all day and raining all afternoon, hence the washed-out picture.

As I was fussing with the camera, we were spotted in the window. Then the two of them trotted off to another position out of our view.

Chillin' at the firepit

There's a new area in the backyard, and it was designed for humans. 
Yes....... I'm talking about a F_I_R_E_P_I_T !!!

Chillin' in the thrillin' pit area, could be grillin' or spillin' a drink or two.

I should have uncovered the pit before I took the picture, but oh well.

You can catch-up on your reading without being bothered..... well except maybe by some deer.

I don't think the "herd" is "wild" about the idea, but they'll just need to get used to it.

Bucks tangle, does tangle, racoons and a fox

I finally went through the September-October game camera pictures. We had a four month long period of drought through the summer, which only broke near the end of October. Therefore there was a lot of activity at the backyard water-feature. These pictures are just a small percentage of the total, because I picked-out what I thought were the best ones.
