Game camera shows lots of fall and winter visitors

A crispy season for wildlife

The late spring, summer and fall of 2019 was quite dry and it left our backyard grasses looking a sad shade of light crispy brown. So late in June I fired-up the brush cutter and whacked 'em down. We would hate to have some errant fireworks from July 4th celebrations start a brush fire so near our house. The picture from September below shows that there was no respite from dryness into the fall.

The oasis for wildlife in our backyard allows us to get a closer look at nature than we would otherwise have....

Coyote Season

Very rarely you will spot a coyote around here, and it's usually at night while driving somewhere. We didn't catch one on the game camera for the first several years of living out here, close to ranchland. This season was the first time we spotted a coyote (with our own eyes) near the water feature IN THE DAYTIME. The game camera captured several images of a pair of coyotes visiting the watering hole. We assume it's one pair since coyotes are territorial and their territories do not overlap.

Foxes and racoons too

We still have foxes roaming the property, and in fact today (June 6) we spotted a fox pair with one young pup. The pup was young enough to still be drinking mom's milk. (No pictures of that though.)

Doe photos

It wouldn't be a backyard post without doe pictures. See the animated GIF photo below!

Deer have a lot of control of their ear movement, I have discovered. They can twist them to concentrate sounds coming from any direction.

That's all for this post. Until next time...... adios a todos!
